How Tall do I have to be to Model for Victoria’s Secret ?

By bobpardue

I am constantly asked these questions about height and weight in glamour modeling for women, specifically about Victoria’s Secret models so thought I’d post ‘em today to see if I can get your feedback.

Especially if you are a lingerie model or work for Victoria’s Secret we would love to hear what you have to say.

How Tall Do I Have To Be For Victorias Secret Modeling ?

Question:

Hi bob,

Hey I wanted to know exactly how tall do I have to be to become a model?

What are the weight requirements?

I really want to be a Victoria’s Secret lingerie model.

Thank You,

Mirchaye

Possible Answer:

Hi Mirchaye,

Thank you for writing. The height and weight depends upon the type modeling ..

Runway or NY high fashion – 5′9″ or above and most likely size 0 dress.

Commercial Modeling - height not as important & need to work on expressions and posing techniques.

Catalog Models - clothes modeling for catalogs and department stores -

petite

average

or plus size (about size 12)

Glamour Models – For female glamour or lingerie modeling, a good size to shoot for is …

Bust: 34″

Waist: 24″

Hips: 34″

And, not the “sickly” type of losing weight but a healty diet program along with plenty of exercise.

As for Victoria’s Secret, you really need to check with them to find their requirements for lingerie models. They may have certain looks they need at any given time.

Hope this helps and good luck in your glamour modeling career.

Bob

As a glamour model, I do quite a bit of work with lingerie and swimwear and personally, curves are the ticket! When I say curves, I mean an hourglass figure. Growing up I was a stick-thin girl, and then once I got into high school my hips and breasts started to kick in. Then I got a bit of a booty. I hated it at the time because I was so used to being 80 something pounds, but thank goodness those days are gone and i’m able to look decent and human. I’m anxious to watch the Victoria’s Secret fashion show when it airs to see what kind of bodies those girls are flaunting. Personally, I would rather see models such as Katie Price, Victoria Silvstedt, and even Pam Anderson walking down the runway in such attire, because their bodies fit the mold and criteria of people who want to see lingerie on women. It’s all about sexiness, desire, and the ability to be as sultry as possible without looking slutty and tacky. I work hard on my stomach, but I let the rest do its own thing because curves are what make lingerie pop out and look appealing. The legs you can put a hand around and the jutting out of the bones is definitely not sexy, and I don’t know what man desires to cuddle up next to that. Best of luck to you!

  7. bobpardue Says:

Although there are exceptions to every rule, many lingerie models I’ve photographed have about 34 D bust size.

Hello. My mom was a model for 6years and now, I want to follow in her footsteps. She has taught me everything she knows, and, my mom was a fairly good model, but she ended up not making it all the way to Paris. Almost though.

I was wondering.. could I be a Glamor Model?
How old do I have to be?

    I’m 11. 5′4 and 112LBS with an 18.88 BMI. I currently have a size 4 dress and I’m bringing that down with a diet, I will soon be in a 0.

Am I enough to be accepted?

    Leanna,

Most of your questions are answered above. Your Mom is also an excellent source of information to use in your career.

Models start at all ages; runway at about 13 but you need to be tall – 5′10″ or taller in most cases to do NY runway.

Other types depend on many factors.

  12. Chelsea Says:

Hello, I’ve been thinking and looking up information about modeling and I’m very curious to find out what body type you have to actually qualify at being a model. I have looks and a very social personality and my father always talks about me being a model but I’m only 5′1″-5′2″.. hips are 32. bust is 34 and waist is 24-25 plus I have an hour glass figure and I’m in sports so I’m fit…so would I be able to do anything when I get older?

    • bobpardue Says:

Chelsea, a valid question. For runway, you will need to be at least 5′9″ or taller. But, there are many other types including commercial, beauty, fitness, etc.

I have posted some information about getting started in modeling on my crash course for new models . This should get you started in the right direction.

  13. Lisa Says:

I’m 5′7.5-5.8, 34B, and I have a 25 inch waistline. However my hips are unusually wide, around 37-38. What type of modeling can I do with these measurements?

  14. Lisa Says:

Ooops. Also forgot to include that I weigh 125 and that I exercise regularly. Goal weight: 120. Age: 19.

    • bobpardue Says:

If you have a toned body, you might still try fitness modeling and there is always commercial work which requires a great personality and the ability to give lots of different expressions (which you can practice). I’m sure there are other avenues but these are the one that came to mind.

      Hope you success!

  15. Oshin Says:

    Hi,
I am 15 years old, Indian and my hieght is about 5′7.5″-5′8″.
I am also pretty thin. Do you think I can make it as runway model?

  16. Oshin Says:

Plus, even if I am short to be a runway model, then how did models like Kate Moss who is under 5′8″ make it in the modeling industry?

    • bobpardue Says:

There are exceptions to every rule. It’s just more difficult to get into runway without the height but there are also many other types of modeling to consider if the catwalk is not in your future.

      Good luck!

I am 20 years old, am 5′10, and weigh 145, but am working on losing 10 pounds. My measurements are 34-29-36. Do I have any potential of being a lingerie or swimsuit model?

  18. TallGuy Says:

The taller, the better, my lady :)

  19. Katie.mc Says:

    • bobpardue Says:

Katie, with your height I’d say most likely commercial modeling would be the most logical although there are sometimes catalog opportunities for petite models.

And please, please make sure your mom or dad is involved in every step and every contact you make … safety first.

      Hope you success!!
