Female models are constantly looking for new ideas when searching for a model or talent agency and this question was sent in by a new fashion model, Kaylie.
Question:
Hi Bob,
In your article about promoting yourself as a model, you say:
“There are other ways to promote yourself on or off the Internet such as contacting local upscale clothing or department stores for fashion shows or catalog work, jewelry stores if you offer hand modeling, hair salons, etc”
Umm.. How exactly do you do that?
Just walk into the business, talk to the manager and go “Hi, i would like to model your products for you. Here is my comp card.” and walk out?
I am still very new at modeling, so I was just wondering exactly how this works?
Thank you for your time!

Answer:
Hi Kaylie,
Thanks for your question.
Don’t walk out until you get the job! d:-)
Seriously, this was an idea I thought of (as most likely did many others) to work backward into a contract or agency.
As stated, it would need to be a major store in a Metro area.
I would first ask for the advertising or catalog manager and see if they use local models or if the catalogs come in from a national source. Either way you can check with the people in charge and find what agencies they use, if any.
Finding an agency in this way at least insures that the agent is getting some work for their models saving your some time in the process.
Hope this helps.
Bob
