Here is a question posed by a woman who is over 35 so thought I’d post this to make others aware and hopefully get some response from other mature models working in different fields.

Dear Bob,
You are always giving helpful hints to girls trying to model, but what about women 35 and over? I know there has to be a market for us as well.
Is it possible to get a listing of agencies in california that represent older models as well? I see magazines and catalogs and commercials with mature women.
How are they getting work? Thanks for your help.

Hi Lynnette,
Thank you for your email. Basically, most of the same principles apply to more mature models with the exception of the top high fashion agencies who mostly look for 13 to 21 year olds.
One place to start is by checking with large department stores like Dillards, etc and find if they use any local agents. If so, find out their number and contact them. Of course, this is for catalog work.
Also, research and talk with other models who are working in the industry. They can set you quickly in the right direction of a good agent.
Another type modeling to try for is commercial work (i.e. lifestyle, advertisting, etc.). There are areas open in both print and motion (TV). This is sometimes a more lucrative field as the competition is many times not as great.
There are opportunities out there for 35 yr old models but you just have to dig to find them.
Hope this helps.
Bob
